The StopShot Studio - High Speed Photography Controller

StopShot Studio is an expanded version of our StopShot high speed photography controller, the user interface for the StopShot Studio is your computer (either MAC or PC). The StopShot Studio features 12 outputs, 2 sensor inputs, a microphone input and a start button. This controller was specifically designed for those who want to have the capability to control many outputs. A good example are the photographers who want to get crazy with lots of water valves for some over the top water drop shots. Currently these photographers need to daisy chain two StopShot controllers to get 6 outputs - not anymore! Like the standard StopShot the Studio version is extremely flexible. You can get a feel for this flexibility by looking at some screen shots of the StopShot Studio Software you can also download the StopShot Studio control software from the support tab above.

Control StopShot Studio via USB

Whether you use a PC or a Mac you can use your computer to control the StopShot Studio. The computer removes the limitation of a small display, making the StopShot Studio much easier to configure. The computer software features tabs specifically for water drops, ballistics, time lapse as well as a completely configurable advanced tab. After you configure the StopShot Studio you can verify your results by clicking over to the plot tab to see your results graphically. Configurations can be saved to a file for easy recovery later. StopShot Studio is completely backwards compatible with all of our original StopShot accessories. You can even program a configuration and then disconnect it from your computer and run it remotely.

StopShot Studio has a dedicated tab just for water drop photography. See below for a screen shot. Just choose the number of water valves, flashes and whether or not you want to control your camera automatically and the computer interface will tell you how to connect everything as well as give you options for the timing control of each.

FAQs

Top Customer Questions and Answers (FAQ)

Is it OK to use other fluids in the system other than water?
Yes, a big part of water drop photography is water chemistry. Adding coloring or thickeners to the water is not a problem and often adds a lot to the end results. Using other liquids like milk is also fine but a good thorough flushing is recommended after use. We would however recommend you stay away from solvents with any type VOC's.
Do you have any water drop tutorials or videos?
Yes, you can find 5 pages of water drop tutorials starting here. The tutorials start off with basics and end with very advanced 3 valve techniques. A link to the next tutorial can be found at the bottom of the previous tutorial page. You can also find videos on the StopShot Water Drop Kit here.
Can I automate the entire process and have StopShot fire the camera as well as the flash and water drops?
Absolutely, but you will need a shutter interface cable to fire your camera. This cable goes between the StopShot output and the camera remote shutter port. For water drop photography we generally recommend you start off in a darkened room with StopShot firing the water valve and flashes and controlling the camera manually in bulb mode. Setup without the camera is much easier and will let you get up and running taking images of water drops much quicker. Once you understand the timing and settings of StopShot add controlling the camera into the mix.
How do I connect my StopShot Studio to multiple flashes?
Since StopShot Studio has 12 outputs the easiest way to connect it multiple flashes is just to connect each flash to its own output using a RCA Patch cable and PC to RCA adapter cable. The flashes can then all be controlled using the same settings in the StopShot Studio Control Software - just tell it how many flashes you are using.
My water valve has become clogged or has a slow leak - what should I do?
If your valve develops a slow leak or the slow becomes restricted it likely just needs a good cleaning. Try purging the water valve by pressing the purge button in the StopShot Studio control software, if this doesn't work you can find tear down and cleaning instructions here.
